Independence Day in the Mountains

Independence Day in Colorado Mountains

Independence day: parades, fireworks and barbecues.  Children eating ice cream cones on their bike while parents prep for the festivities.  It’s one of the most beautiful weekends of the year in Colorado, and each of the mountain towns have something unique to offer.

Aspen/Snowmass

fireworks-828643_1280The City of Aspen likes to celebrate the 4th of July in style. Around 20,000 locals and visitors gather for festivities like a parade, a U.S. Air Force jet flyby, live concerts, and fireworks over Aspen Mountain.

Copper Mountain

Independence day at Copper Mountain goes above and beyond with their 3 Ring Weekend, a free family-friendly event featuring things like live music, fireworks, “Pimp my Ride” kids parade, and a carnival for all. Copper guests can travel to Frisco or Dillon for fireworks starting at 9:30 pm.  Squeeze in a zipline tour in nearby Idaho Springs, a 50 minute drive from Copper Mountain, for even more adventure.

Crested Butte

Are you an early riser? Luckily, the fun starts bright and early with the Crested Butte Fire & EMS Department’s pancake breakfast. If exercise is more your style, you can run, walk or crawl to your celebration with the Annual Gothic to Crested Butte 1/3 Marathon organized by the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. Also, don’t forget about the annual parade down Elk Avenue beginning at 11 am followed by live music, food and continuous festivities!

Telluride

IMG_9412-1200The 4th of July in Telluride kicks off with the Telluride Foundation’s Rundola; a foot race starting from the base of the gondola in the town of Telluride to the top of the ridge adjacent to the San Sophia gondola mid-station. If you’re going to race, why not sweat for a good cause? You can also attend the Telluride parade beginning at 11:00 am on historic Main Street all the way until dusk to watch the sunset over the San Juan Mountains followed by a grand display of fireworks.
