Nothing fills the heart the during the holiday season as much as giving. We all have the spirit of giving inside us, and nothing feels better than making someone else smile. It’s easy to receive and even better to give, so consider the following options this holiday season to warm another’s heart as well as your own.

Shoveling to help seniorsshovel_google images (labeled for reuse)
That snow is heavy as we all know, so let’s use our strength and help others out this winter. The Summit County Community and Senior Center is the hub of communication between seniors needing help with their snowy driveways, and Summit County residents and shovel owners willing to lend a hand. Those who have shovels and want to help out a local senior in need should call at (970) 668-2941. They will then be put on a list, and contacted if there is someone in their vicinity needing shoveling help.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing
Spread the joy of the season by ringing the bell for a great cause. Stand outside one of the local supermarkets with your Santa hat on, bundle up and make everyone smile for a great cause. Watch people giving to the “kettle” as you yourself help raise money for this great organization. Don’t forget your gloves!

To sign up, call the FIRC at (970) 262-3888.

Give to a Food Bankfood bank_google images (labeled for reuse)
Another great way to give back. We all have some non-perishable and canned goods on our shelves. So, time to clean them out and bring them to one of many local food banks. Check any local church or supermarket for a place to bring your donation.

It’s a great time of year in the mountains, but let’s not forget to help the less fortunate and realize how lucky we are, and what an opportunity we have to give back. That is the real spirit of the Holiday season!
