tourism-1213802_1280Summer in Colorado is one the best times to visit our state. Don’t get me wrong – winter is awesome, but summer presents a wide range of additional outdoor activities. Whether you are a mountain bike enthusiast, dedicated angler, or avid hiker, Colorado has an activity for everyone.

Overwhelmed with activity possibilities? Want to tackle everything but not sure where to start? We have outlined a number of awesome hike for every skill level.

1.   Gore Canyon Trail – (Kremmling, Colorado)

This trail is located just outside the city of Kremmling – about an hour from Summit County (Breckenridge, Keystone, Dillon, etc). The 3.1 mile hike has been rated moderate with a 214 foot incline. Gore Canyon is dog friendly and is accessible Late April through November.

2.  Lower Cataract Loop – (Silverthorne, Colorado)

A personal favorite! Lower Cataract is a great hike for all skill levels located near the Blue River. The 2.3 mile loop is accessible from June to October (potentially later – weather dependent). The road to access the trail is a bit rough – an SUV or car with all wheel drive or four wheel drive would be best. Don’t miss the beautiful fall scenery and picnic areas around the lake. Must see!

3.  Prospector Trail – (Idaho Springs, Colorado)

Looking for a moderate challenge? Check out Prospector Trail in Idaho Springs. The 4.8 mile loop is family friendly – a great afternoon activity after rafting or ziplining. The trail is primarily used for hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching. Be sure to check out the hot springs if you have time!

4.  Mt. Princeton – (Buena Vista, Colorado)

Mount Princeton is one of the collegiate peaks in Colorado and towers over Buena Vista and the Arkansas Valley. This is an advanced, class two 14er. That being said, it is important to understand this is a difficult hike – especially if you are not acclimated to the altitude. We recommend spending at least two days in Colorado before attempting this hike. The hike begins at 9,900 feet with an elevation gain of about 4,500 feet.

5.  Brown’s Creek – (Buena Vista, Colorado)

Brown’s Creek is an 11 mile loop through one of the most beautiful parts of Colorado. The trail follows the Arkansas River. On the trail, you will see several waterfalls, wildflower valleys, and possibly the occasional wildlife. Total hike time is estimated at approximately 7.5 hours. Brown’s Canyon Trail is frequented by horseback riders and hikers alike. The hike is rated moderately difficult so bring some sturdy shoes!
