One of my favorite ways to spend the Colorado summers is going to the many festivals happening throughout the state. With Colorado being a popular location for outdoor adventures, the local festivals represent the locals’ dedication to having fun. With events happening almost every week, there really is something for everyone happening in Colorado this summer.
Paddlefest
Paddlefest in Buena Vista takes place May 26-29. As an outpost for a lot of outdoor activities, Buena Vista embodies everything this festival celebrates. There are kayak competitions, clinics run by local guides and other outfitters, river races and concerts happening over the 3 days.
Summer Kickoff Parade
Idaho Springs holds a Summer Kickoff Parade on June 3rd. Since this event is only a few hours, it’s perfect for people just looking for a short day trip. There is a parade through the town followed by a free barbecue.
Rodeo Week
Rodeo week in Buena Vista takes place June 4-11. The rodeo has fishing, hiking, shooting sports, horse back riding and even a hay ride. The pinnacle of this event is the Annual Buena Vista Collegiate Peaks Rodeo happening on Saturday.
FIBArk Festival
The FIBArk Festival takes place June 15-18 in downtown Salida, CO. This event’s main feature is a26 miles long race down the Arkansas River from Salida to Cotopaxi. FIBArk is America’s oldest whitewater festival, and also its most loved. Along with the river race there is also a freestyle competition, a 5k and 10k running race, a bike race, a carnival and a fun run for kids. As one of the two premiere whitewater events in the country, FIBArk draws visitors from around the world.
Rapidgrass Bluegrass Festival
Rapidgrass Bluegrass Festival takes place June 23-25 in Clear Creek County. The lineup has been released and early bird tickets are now available for purchase. For a little extra you can even purchase an on-site campsite for the weekend! Vendors will be on site selling tasty food and wonderful libations.
Denver Underground Music Showcase
Denver Underground Music Showcase will take place July 27-30 primarily on South Broadway. This event showcases tons of local bands at this locals’ favorite hangout. This festival benefits Youth On Record and the Denver Post Community.
Boom Days
Boom Days in Leadville will be August 4-6, and is definitely one of my favorite annual festivals! This one focuses on Colorado’s history and is a celebration of the Old West. Actors dress up and perform hilarious skits and shenanigans. There are also gunslinger competitions, burro races, a street fair parade, great local food a car show and a pie eating contest. If you’re going to be staying in the area check out the Melanzana store in Leadville, featuring fleece clothing made locally.
If you are looking for some outdoor adventures this summer, Colorado Zipline and AVA has outposts in Buena Vista, Idaho Springs and Kremmling. Check out our unique zipline courses in Buena Vista and Idaho springs for a thrill of a lifetime!
