The last big summer holiday is just around the corner. Have you decided how you’re going to spend your Labor Day weekend? There are plenty of awesome outdoor activities to do for the week and a few that should not be missed. Let us help you plan your Labor Day this year!
Seven Peaks Country Music Festival
A first for this year is going to be the Seven Peaks Country Music Festival from August 31st to September 3rd. Country star Dierks Bentley paired up with Live Nation to bring you this country and bluegrass extravaganza in Buena Vista, Colorado. General admission 3-day passes start at $215, with plenty of tent or RV camping available. Even if you aren’t staying in Buena Vista, this festival is not to be missed. It’s fun for the whole family and will wrap up your summer with some great music and sleeping under the stars.
Salida WineFest
Fan of music and wine? This Labor Day weekend is the 7th annual Salida WineFest on Saturday September 1st from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. There will be local vendors, live music, and awesome art from local artists. Taking place at the Riverside Park in Salida, Colorado, you’re in for some incredible weather and great entertainment if you partake in this event.
Mountaintop Ziplining
Trying to pair your event with a great outdoor activity? AVA’s Mountaintop Zipline is located just north of the town of Buena Vista and will send you soaring among the treetops with some incredible views of the Arkansas River Valley. Adventurers as young as 6 years old are welcome to partake and you’ll catch some sights of the Colorado Rockies like you never have before.
Trout Unlimited and Optimist Fishing Derby
An awesome event for the kids during Labor Day is the Trout Unlimited and Optimist Fishing Derby. It includes a pancake breakfast and a hotdog lunch. The kids that don’t have a rod or reel can get their own from CPW on site and can keep them when they are done, just don’t forget to bring to some bait or lures! Head to McPhelemy Park in Buena Vista on September 1st to join in on the fun.
Granite Via Ferrata
If you’re looking for the ultimate challenge, try AVA’s newest adventure: the Granite Via Ferrata. Between traversing among the mountaintops and crossing multiple suspended bridges, this 3 hour excursion will have you clinging to the edge of the cliff high above the Arkansas River. This Via Ferrata course even incorporates some ziplining, so you get the best of both worlds.
