Colorado is home to some pretty amazing attractions, such as Red Rocks Amphitheater and Garden of the Gods. However, if you’re looking for something a little different, you have plenty of options.  Here is a list of some of Colorado’s Strangest Attractions.

  • The Stanley Hotel – Located in Estes Park this famous hotel is where Stephen King stayed and was inspired to write “The Shining”.  Check into one of the rooms if you dare, but stay away from room 217.
  • Casa Bonita – This Mexican village themed restaurant has a lot going on.  While eating dinner you can be entertained by cliff divers, fire jugglers, and mariachi music that will be stuck in your head for days on end.
  • UFO Watchtower – This UFO themed campground owned by Judy Messoline is an interesting spot complete with a gift shop and observation tower.  Feel free to tell Judy your UFO encounter and get a free UFO themed frisbee.
  • Cheyenne Mountain Nuclear Bunker – Deep in the side of Cheyenne Mountain is an old nuclear bunker that is now more or less non-operational.  You’ve probably seen the outside of it in a few Sci-fi movies such as Independence Day.
  • Buckhorn Exchange – If you’re a fan of stuffed dead animals staring at you while you eat this is the place for you.  With wall to wall taxidermy and a menu including options such as rattlesnake and alligator tail be sure to bring your appetite.
  • Colorado Gators Reptile Park – Back in 1987 Erwin and Lynne Young purchased 100 baby alligators to combat an overpopulation of fish in a geothermal well on their property.  Well….they grew up and now the property is home to alligators, snakes and many other unwanted donated exotic pets.  They also have alligator wrestling classes for the brave (focus is on subduing the gators to check for any wounds, not bragging rights.)
  • Frozen Dead Guy Days – Located in Nederland, CO every year is a celebration of Bredo Morstoel.  Morstoel’s body is preserved with dry ice as he believed one day science would be able to bring his body back to life.  Maybe one day he’ll be able to celebrate with the rest of the town.
  • Dragon Man’s Military Museum – Mel “Dragon Man” Bernstein, a Vietnam era vet from Brooklyn, owns the property that includes multiple shooting ranges, a motorcross park, and a war museum that rivals The Smithsonian.
  • Gnome Road – Near Red Feather Lakes, CO is a dirt road lined with magical creatures or at least the ceramic type.
  • NIST-F1 Cesium Fountain Atomic Clock – This is the clock that sets the official time of the United States.  Located in Boulder this incredibly complex clock will neither gain or lose a second in the next 80 million years.
